Hello there!

Well 2011 is almost over, and i havent posted here in a long time.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help and dedication.

Thanks to everyone who donated, all the money was used to pay the server bill, which isnt cheap.

Thanks to everyone who helped seed the files on bbstorrents. YOU really helped bbstorrents become what i consider
the #1 place to get bbs and hacking files on the internet. most sites that have file archives online dont like people to download. at bbstorrents downloading [AND SEEDING AFTERWARDS] is encouraged and it's benefitial to everyone!

Thanks to everyone on irc and thanks to Mikeredd for merging with our irc server and giving us the great people who helped
our irc server stay strong. An irc server that just discusses bbs games or fidonet is just boring.
I'm glad we have much more than that and i'm glad we are still going strong despite the handful of jealous naysayers and haters who do nothing for the bbs community.

Thanks to everyone who donated their time and hard work to making bbses.info the successful service it is!

i have a few projects planned for 2012. remember it is up to YOU to keep bbsing alive. get the word out. if you're a sysop make it easier for your users to sign in and use your system. dont fight the internet. work with it.

Overall i would call bbses.info a success.
i am going through a slow period on the torrent site, running out of ideas, so please submit some! :D

The bbswiki wasn't so popular but there are some important pieces of information archived there.
I'm just not a fan of wikis.

Recently i added an imagehosting and pastebin site; its been very useful on irc.

i've added a bitlbee server to bbses.info

what it does is basically integrate all your IM chat accounts into one irc client of your choosing.

all your contacts are users in your own channel that only you can see.
all info is encrypted and i can not see your passwords.

I got the new server and i'm pretty happy with it. unfortunately it has less space than the VPS i had tried, but it's a dedicated server on a 100MB line. it's pretty fast bandwidth wise and has some muscle. The reseller i'm dealing with is a russian guy in his early 30's and seems like a smart guy i can trust. anyways, i need a short break! been working on this migration every night for a week from 5pm-11pm. VERY glad that this new server is working without a hitch.

Fixing some torrents
Some torrents are not saving in the correct parent dir. i will be fixing a small amount of the large torrents and posting FIXED torrents on the site. you can then redownload the fixed torrents and apply them to your existing files read more here [bbses.info] THERE IS MINIMAL WORK TO GET THE OLD TORRENT'S FILES TO WORK WITH THIS ONE! short version is you make a dir with the same name inside and move your files there. download the new torrent file force a recheck and start it. example: bbs.cracks/ will be bbs.cracks/bbs.cracks PLEASE SEED! IT DOESN'T USE UP MUCH BANDWIDTH!

fixing torrents

it appears that when some torrents are downloaded, it creates a mess. atleast for me at my home computer.

this is strange because when i created the torrents, i pointed it to a directory and i expected said directory
to be saved into the torrent and then be retained in the .torrent file's information.

in some cases it just wasn't.

this weekend [periodically] i will be fixing torrents by creating an additional parent directory for them, and then moving the
dirs and files into the directory.

After i am done with a torrent it will be removed from the site, and the 'fixed' version will be avaliable for download.
i will provide information on how to clean up your download dir and use your current downloaded files to seed the
new fixed torrent.

this means cleaner directories that are easily applied to your existing bbs file areas.
it will be minimal effort on your part. infact, if you are using utorrent it will remove the stray files and then redownload
the correct files in the new parent directory.

my apologies for this oversight; i only saw this when i was synching my home computer with the torrent site's files.

this really should not have happened, and it's only with a select few.

how to seed after moving files

i know it's hard to build a ratio when i am running 1 or 2 servers that are 100MB

i have very little to work with regarding this torrent site code.

if you get a warning and i see you are seeding several torrents i will boost your upload
credits. please seed as much as you can. it really does not use up much of your bandwidth

the system may give you another warning,etc i will try to remove them, but sometimes they go back into
the account, even if i manually edit the database.

i'm working on finding out how to prevent this, but so far i'm using 2 different methods/locations in the site/database and
sometimes the warnings pop up again.
